Suramya.com: Mirror(s)

Introduction

The best way to support a project is to give them money. However sometimes the author/creator of a project doesn't want money so another way to help is by spreading the word around and mirroring the software you like for free (as long as you have permission from the author).

I am creating this section as a way of saying thanks to all the people in the open source, Free Software communities and some publishing firms. Each sub-section below is a mirror of a different project. The project introduction text should do a decent job of explaining what the project is about, but if that's not the case do let me know and I will clarify further.

Please don't send bug-reports on any of this software to me, I only host the stuff I didn't make it. So please contact the author directly. However if you get a 404 error or something like that then in that case let me know.

A warning. I am not responsible if you manage to mess-up your system when using any of the stuff on this page. I have tested most of whats in this section on my system (Debian 5 Testing)/Windows XP/Windows 2003 Server but they might work slightly differently on your system. Meaning? Make a good backup before you try any of the following, and don't complain to me if it doesn't work.

With that said I hope that you find this section useful.

Mirror: Baen CD's

Introduction

In 2002 Baen Publishing in an unprecedented move gave away a bound-in CD with the first edition hardcover release of David Weber's War of Honor. This CD contained over twenty-two UNENCRYPTED novels in several formats (html, .rtf, .lit, .prc, .rb). Here an Orientation by Jim Baen, publisher that explains the idea a lot better.

Since then they have continued to release new CD's frequently with certain books and if this wasn't enough they allow these CDs to be freely distributed by anyone as long as there's no charge for it. These CDs are generally available bound into the first edition of the books they are titled for. A few of the CDs (those marked with the P prefix) are not bound in any book and were made available as publishing industry promotional material.

Please remember that just because these books are being provided at no cost does not mean that they are in the Public Domain. So if you download any of the disks, do take the time to go to the Baen Webscription site and buy a copy of at least the CD's primary ebook. Each book over there costs about $6 and that gives you access to the book along with a downloadable copy of the CD. Or you can buy the entire Webscription month that the CD accompanies for $15.

This site is not associated with Baen Publishing Enterprises. (Obviously. But just wanted to make sure I make that very clear on this). The contents of the CD's have been made freely available and I (Suramya) don't make any profit from this or any sales of Baen Books. The zipped images of the CD's were downloaded from The Fifth Imperium where all the same content is hosted along with other extra's.

Mirror: Old Hindi Books

Introduction

Was rearranging my book collection here when I found some really old Hindi books. These books belonged to my Mother’s Grandfather and had been lying unnoticed with my books for ages. Unfortunately some of the books have gotten damaged, probably in all the moves we did over the years when dad was in the Air Force.

As these books are pretty much irreplaceable, I have started scanning them and then restoring them. The plan is that once I am done scanning all these books I will visit my grandparents place and get the rest of his books from there and scan them too. Some of these books are over a 100 years old.

Since I am pretty sure that the books are no longer under copyright I am going to post them here on the site. Feel free to distribute the books as long as you don’t charge for it. Plus would be nice if you could mention where you got them from.

The books are scanned as .jpg images with two pages per image. As I said the books were in bad condition (I am sad that I didn’t notice this earlier) and some of them have pages missing so I have scanned whatever pages were remaining and restored the books and put proper covers etc on them to prevent further damage.

Book Name Comments/Description
“Bado Ke Jeevan Se Siksha” The name translates into "Lessons from lives of your elders". This is about 110 pages and has been scanned with two pages per image except for the 1st and last page. A couple of pages are missing from the end of the book but I have scanned all the pages still available.
Hindi Stories (Unknown Title) Unfortunately the title page of this book is missing so I don’t know the name of the book. It contains short stories in Hindi
“Padho Samjho Aur Karo” The name translates into "Read, Understand and do it". Its a 140 Page book which was missing 2 pages that look like they were torn out.
Sachee Aur Imandaar Balak The name translates into "Truthful and Honest Children." Contains short stories about children who were honest and truthful.
