A while ago someone asked me: “How many books do you read till now?” and my answer was: a lot. So last year I decided to start counting the no of books I read by keeping a list of all the books I read starting on 26th Nov 2007.
Now one year later the book count is: 304 books read. (This doesn’t include the books that I started to read and then stopped. Though there aren’t a lot of them). I wanted to cross 365 but… I guess that’s a goal for next year.
If I wanted to calculate the aprox no of books I have read so far, I can do it. I started reading novels in 4th class and by the 5th I was going through the school library and the local library like crazy. Lets say that the year I started reading was 1991. That means that I have been reading for aprox 17 years. (Its a bit more but lets use this as the start because that was when I started reading regularly)
17*304 =5408
Its very likely that I have read more books than that because there have been months where I have read multiple books each day. (These were mostly during the school vacations.)
Thought I should share that with you… How many books do you read each year?

Although the number does seem to be a lot higher than that.
I have no idea how many I read. How did you keep track though? That software that you made?

That software I had made was to keep track of the books I bought. It hasn’t been used since 2003/2004 (I think). Now I use this really cool software called EditPlus to keep track of the books I read 😉
Basically its a plain text file with the name of the book, Author name and the date I read the book with one entry per line. Some day I when I get time I will put it in a database but thats too much work right now and frankly I don’t see the point of putting it in a DB.

Its on Day “162 of 30 day trial” on this system. (Had to reformat a couple of times)
The reason I get to read so many books is that I am a very fast reader so it doesn’t take me too long to finish a book even with the limited free time that I get nowadays.
